Parametric City Design Tools
CityEngine comes with a comprehensive toolset for the quick creation of detailed cities. Unique street grow functionalities and intuitive edit tools are provided to design,
draw and modify urban layouts consisting of (curved) streets, blocks and parcels. Street construction or block subdivision can be controlled via parametric interfaces, resulting in immediate visual feedback.

Procedural Modeling Core
Procedural modeling based on CGA rules offers unlimited possibilities to control mass, assets, proportions, or texturing of building designs on a city-wide scale.
Thus, inherently generic and multifunctional building designs at arbitrary detailed levels can be defined with CGA rules. With the live mode, your rule-based parametric models can be interactively edited and modified.
| | | |

Customizable User Interface
Streamlined GUI with tabbed windows, which can be freely arranged via drag'n'drop. Different windows layout configurations can be stored and loaded.
Predefined navigation schemes allow to configure the 3D viewport(s) so that its mouse bindings match your preferred 3D applications.
| | | |

3D Mice Support
Natural and intuitive high quality navigation with 3Dconnexion's 3D mice - allowing to move in all three dimensions simultaneously, using six degrees of freedom sensor technology.
Available for Windows and Mac OS X platforms only.
| | | |

City Wizard
The CityEngine City Wizard is the easiest way to generate a procedural city. Create and generate whole cities from pre-defined templates with only a few mouse clicks.
| | | |

Terrain and Map Import
Terrains in CityEngine are created from imported height maps (8/16 bit) and arbitrary image maps can be used to control selection, parametric streets and blocks, or the rule-based models generation.
| | | |

OpenStreetMap Import
Street networks and footprints of real world cities can be imported for free from OpenStreetMap into CityEngine. This allows for a quick generation of existing urban surroundings.
| | | |

ESRI Shape File Support
Import and export GIS data such as streets, footprints or attribute mapping layers (all including optional attributes) with ESRI Shape files (.shp).
| | | |

Rule Editor (Node-based Visual Editing or Scripting)
CGA rules are authored and modified in the Rule Editor. The node-based visual interface allows to intuitively and efficiently create procedural buildings by manipulating rules graphically
rather than by specifying them textually (for users with scripting knowledge, also text-based editing is available including syntax highlighting and command completion).
| | | |

Facade Wizard
Simple and easy-to-use visual facade authoring tool to quickly create rules out of an image or a textured mass model. The resulting facade rules are size-independent
(can be applied in any other building design) and can be extended with e.g. detailed window assets or arbitrary quantities reporting.
| | | |

Rule-based Report Generation
Customized rule-based reports can be generated to analyze the urban design e.g. automatically calculate quantities such as GFA, FAR, etc. Reports are updated automatically and instantaneously.
| | | |

Basic 2D and 3D Format Support
The well-known formats OBJ, 3DS and DXF allow for basic import and export between CityEngine and 3D/CAD applications. Textures can be collected during (batch) export.
| | | |

Standard 3D Format Support
The industry-standard formats FBX (2011.2) and Collada (1.4.1) allow for flawless 3D data exchange. Supported features include asset instancing, multiple UV-sets, grouping or binary encoding.
Textures can be collected during (batch) export.
| | | |

Advanced 3D Format Support
CityEngine scenes can be exported in Pixar's RenderMan (.rib) or mental images' RealityServer/mentalray (.mi) format. Furthermore, simulation data such as flow fields, color ramps, lanes, or sound agents can be exported to Massive Prime or Jet.
RIB export is only available on 32 bit Windows and Linux platforms.
| | | |

Python Scripting Interface
Streamline repetitive or pipeline-specific tasks with the integrated Python programming interface e.g. automatically create different levels of detail in batch mode, import FBX cameras etc.
| | | |

Script-based Export
Allows scripting of complex export processes via Python e.g. write out arbitrary meta-data or instancing information for each building etc.

Learning Videos
Whether you're an architect, urban planner, GIS professional, game developer, or CG artist, several learning videos demonstrate you the basics and key concepts of CityEngine.
| | | |

Tutorials
CityEngine tutorials are the starting point to learn CityEngine - and help you to improve your skills and take full advantage of CityEngine. The step-by-step lessons are accompanied by easy-to-follow tutorial videos.
| | | |

Examples
CityEngine comes with inspiring and extensive example cities and building rules that demonstrate different use cases and allow to quickly create detailed cities via parametric modeling only.
Included are ancient, contemporary and future cities at different levels of detail.
| | | |

Documentation
CityEngine comes along with a help documentation system consisting of a quick start guide, a manual with in-depth descriptions, tutorial lesson, and a reference of the CGA rule operations.
The help documentation system is available online and offline.

| License |
|---|

Node-locked License
A CityEngine node-locked license is bound to the MAC address and valid for a single computer. No network connection is required at any time, setup is easy and quick.
| | | |

Network License
CityEngine floating licenses are well suited for multi-user environments. Licenses are not bound to specific computers, and can be obtained on demand (powered by FLEXnet licensing system).
To be able to run CityEngine in offline environments as well, floating licenses can be conveniently "borrowed" (checking out a license temporarily).
| | | |

Unrestricted License Agreement
May be licensed and used by companies or incorporated entities that had a turnover in excess of US$ 200,000 in their last financial year. More information in the End User License Agreement.
